Cannot believe that after an entire year…. Production for @twoflaresup is over. It’s overwhelming to think about. The amount of meetings, budgets, calls, blood, sweat, and tears that went into this film is immense. I’m so excited to begin the process of post and even more excited to screen this at the end of the year in June. This year has been a wild ride as I prepare to graduate and culminate my experience into one grand thesis project… the past year I’ve been working on Two Flares Up, a story inspired by true events but that tells a story about racism, family, and the dangers we face as fascism grows in the U.S. Like any film, this one needs the help of donors to make it a reality. Unlike most student films however, this project will test the limits of what’s possible on a student budget. From massive protest and crowd scenes, to safety precautions as we use prop weapons and simulate violence, the funds donated will be spread thin, and will be made possible by you. Was working on an assignment for a cinematography course I’m in where we had to share our ‘cinematography vision’ with our peers and summarize our likes and dislikes in these images. Got me to seeing a pattern in my cinematography - so many of my images are so dark. Not under exposed, just contrasty and dark. Which isn’t quite a surprise, but its interesting to see. It was also a really fun opportunity to look back at my filmography and see how far I’ve come 🙌🏼
Was working on some new tools in #Blender. Here I have the simplest form of a crowd simulation using a hair particle system on the ground plane. Only maybe the 3rd time I’ve ever really used Blender, so I’m pretty proud of this - despite some quirks in the rotoscoping lmao. Still funny how every time I open the program I have to relearn how to use it ☠️ #filmmaker #CGI #crowdsim #simulation #chicago

Got to do something extraordinary this weekend... something that I thought only a BIG BUDGET production could do. Low and behold, we made it happen! What happens when your two leads can’t drive? You either shoot it in a studio (not quite convincing) or you rent a process trailer which is $5K+... which we obviously couldn’t do. So we found some alternatives and only paid $60 bucks. And by god was it worth it! Thank you to our wonderful cast and crew who stuck through it even in the freezing cold... you guys have changed my life. 🙌🏼 we’ve accomplished so much to create this feature film, and on a shoestring budget too. I know short films with more budget than us, and we’re making this look and feel amazing! Special thanks to #AmeliaMylvaganam for letting us use her car. #TBT little update for y’all. So I’ve been up to a few things. I’ve finally gotten to that level where I have so many projects going on I feel bad about the amount I keep having to turn down. It’s super cool, but also so sad because I wonder what I might be missing out on. Anyways, this one pictured was amazing and filled with a fantastic cast a crew! Cold as hell... but a fire team. 🎥 I’ll be DP for another project soon too, and even directing my first feature in nearly a month and a half. Am I nervous?
